I’m not sure how anyone could think this is possible, although anything is possible, but the Dark Lord never did get into Hogwarts in anyway that he would have had the power to enchant or charm the Sorting Hat. Even if he did, I think the hat is smarter than Voldemort. It has a piece of Godric’s brain in it, along with Slythrin’s too. The Dark Lord is evil and an exceptional wizard, but he isn’t always ‘smart’, is he?
I think the hat would have been able to defend itself a bit if it had been used in such a manner. Therefore, I really don’t think it’s a horcrux.

The hat cant be a horcrux. Thats because an act of murded is required as part of the process of creating a horcrux. Voldemort would have to go into Hogwarts and kill someone and then charm the sorting hat right after. He could have done it when he was at hogwarts but then the hat is kept in Dumbledore's office. So i doubt that ever happened. Besudes, I dont remember an unsolved murder at Hogwarts that early.
but i think it might be a horcrux otherwise how does it give so much advice.i mean, let's take snape for an example.he was a very good occlumens.the sorting hat might be a very good occlumens too.
i dont think that the sorting hat is a horcrux because...
1. it is practically alive so if it was then wouldnt it tell Dumbledore?
2. if it was then in the second book why did it help Harry destroy the Diary.
3. how would Tom Riddle put the piece of soul inside the hat which was in Dumbledores study without anyone seeing?
4. and the last thing that i can think of is that if it was possible of Tom to enter Hogwarts, kill someone, get to Dumbledores study and put his piece of soul inside the hat and then get out withoutanyone noticing that he killed someone and put his piece of soul inside the hat, and also make sure that no-one knows that he was making horcruxs. Why didnt he put the piece of soul inside the sword of Gryffindor instead
